The New Seat

Jean Luc Cornille

Jean Luc Cornille and Chazot

This Jean Luc Cornille "The New Seat" lecture has been a favorite around the world and now is available online or DVD.

Sometime classic authors talk about, “resistances to the aids, horses' reactions that elude them.”  The horses’ reactions elude them because they are not resistances to the aids. They are resistances to the horses' own muscle imbalance or dysfunction that alter their ability to perform.

Traditionally, the seat is taught as a posture and body parts, the hands, the legs, are used to apply the aids. Such approach is no longer in line with actual knowledge. A muscle never works alone, lines of fascia connect the whole body, most of the length change required for the work of locomotion and performance occurs not in the muscle fibers themselves but by elastic recoil of the associated tendons and muscles aponeurosis. The horse’s physique can no longer be educated by parts. There is an integrity of the horse’s physique that cans only be created through the integrity of the rider’s physique.

The New Seat is a lot more than just a talk about the seat; it is the opening to a level of communication with the horse that was hinted by the wisdom of our ancestors, but marred by explanations limited to the scientific knowledge available.

Pertinent, factual, beautifully illustrated, the new seat raises the conversation with the horse to a new level.

The rider position is not a posture. It is a subtle coordination of the rider’s physique allowing a dynamic conversation with the horse. The coordination is proper to each rider and is constantly adapted to the horse’s level of balance control.

The new seat analyses the classical posture in the light of actual scientific knowledge of equine locomotion and athletic performances. The study evolves toward a coordination of the rider’s physique allowing the rider to reach her or his full potential and converse efficiently with the horse
